Understanding Etsy's fee structure is essential for pricing your products profitably. Etsy charges several different fees on every sale, and they add up faster than most new sellers expect. Here's a breakdown of every fee Etsy charges and how they affect your bottom line.
Every item you list on Etsy costs $0.20. This fee is charged when you first publish the listing and again each time the item sells (the listing auto-renews). If a buyer purchases multiple quantities, you'll pay $0.20 per unit. For digital products that can sell unlimited times, this is an ongoing cost per sale.
Etsy takes 6.5% of the total order amount, which includes the item price, shipping, and any gift wrapping charges. This is Etsy's main commission and applies to every sale regardless of your seller level or account age.
If you use Etsy Payments (which is required in most countries), you'll also pay a payment processing fee. The rate varies by country:
| Country | Processing Rate | Fixed Fee |
|---|---|---|
| United States | 3.0% | + $0.25 |
| United Kingdom | 4.0% | + GBP 0.20 |
| Canada | 3.0% | + CAD 0.25 |
| Australia | 3.0% | + AUD 0.25 |
| Germany | 4.0% | + EUR 0.30 |
| France | 4.0% | + EUR 0.30 |
Etsy runs ads for your products on Google, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. If a buyer clicks one of these ads and purchases within 30 days, Etsy charges an advertising fee. Sellers earning under $10,000 per year pay 15% on these sales. Sellers earning over $10,000 pay 12%. Sellers with under $10,000 in annual revenue can opt out of the programme, but those above the threshold cannot.
On a typical $25 sale with free shipping from the US, Etsy takes approximately $2.58 in total fees: $0.20 listing fee + $1.63 transaction fee + $0.75 processing fee. That's about 10.3% of your sale price. If offsite ads are involved, the total jumps to around 25%. Use the calculator above to see the exact breakdown for your specific products and pricing.
The most common mistake new sellers make is setting prices without factoring in all these fees. Our Digital Product E-Commerce Starter Toolkit includes a multi-product profit calculator that accounts for every Etsy fee automatically, so you can set prices that guarantee your target profit margin. You can also grab our free Seller Starter Pack which includes basic pricing calculators and templates to get started.
